@laeubi I started testing this out, and many things seem great! I am happy to see all the changes being made, this is a huge release. I do have a question about the "pom declared dependencies are considered for compile". Is this to say that "normal" (POJO) Maven dependencies are able to be included in the pom and "just work" (i.e., not having to turn them into bundles anymore)? I have found that doing this, the project is able to build on the command line, but importing into Eclipse the "pom only" dependencies are not found. I have found this to be true with the its project |

I was actually looking for it before because I wasn't expecting it to be gone (although my other "normal" plugin projects don't have one either). I only have JRE System Library and Plug-in Dependencies. Sounds like I'll be off to m2e then 👍 thanks for your help. |

@laeubi thanks for your fix in m2e, the code compiled in eclipse now. I had to reorder the classpath container so "Maven Dependencies" appear before "Plug-in Dependencies", otherwise they get access restriction errors. Needs more testing to figure out if it's a real issue though (reimport projects from clean setup, etc). Another follow up question though, these pom-only dependencies really are "compile only"? As in, to work at runtime they would still have to be as OSGi bundles and declared in the MANIFEST? Is there any way to utilize this new system to avoid this? We currently use an uber-bundle (similar to m2e-maven-runtime, except with more things) to manage all our maven deps, which isn't an ideal solution. |

@kysmith-csg it depends a bit, for Tycho you should not see any issue with that (if not please open an issue with reproducer and I could imagine two possible mitigations:

If they are not bundles you need to use pomDependencies=wrapAsBundle But usually in such case it is often more convenient to use maven-target-artifacts as it works in the IDE and in the commandline build. |

@drsgoodall java support is not provided by Tycho, it will include support for latest release ECJ version but not necessarily all recent bugfixes see: but you can (theoretically) use any ECJ version with any Tycho version already without waiting for a release. as an alternative, you will be able to use |

There has been lots of fixes and improvements since the 4.0.8 release. Would this be a good time for a 4.0.9 release? I would also like to solve eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform.ui#1901 soon, by adding the needed URI schemes on macOS to the Eclipse EPP packages, which would need a 4.0.9 release of Tycho. @laeubi I could help with the release process, but not sure how much I could take over without having the GPG key for maven central. |

I'll prepare and publish the release today.
In general its always good to keep PRs merged / backported, updated docs and testing the snapshots so we are always can release, but I think at the moment we are in a good state so I mostly only need to perform the release. |

Please help by testing the SNAPSHOTS build. To use it, change your tycho version to -SNAPSHOT and add the following snippet to your pom.
tycho-snapshots https://repo.eclipse.org/content/repositories/tycho-snapshots/We plan to promote this release end of june unless major regressions are found.
