Your use case

What would you like to do?

I can't grab and move the window. All the click-drag zones of the top bar space appear to be occupied by something or other.

Why would you like to do it?

It's one of the most common things a user needs to do with the chat window interface, is grabbing and move it about their desktop. Taking up all the grab bar space with active elements defeats that.

How would you like to achieve it?

Provide a tint or make sure there's a continuous bar all the way along the top of the window that a user can grab. This penchant for flat UI just makes it horribly worse. A little depth goes a long way to helping with everyday usability.

Have you considered any alternatives?

There is no alternative, it's a system-level UX need.

Hi,

All the space in red can be dragged to move the window.

Nope, for me, the draggable area looks more like this:

Clicking and dragging right above the search bar does sometimes work, but not consistently.

The best experience would be if we could drag on the whole room header bar to move the window.

@alexanderneuschl got the crux of it. The click-drag region seems inconsistent for me as well, however it might be more to do with the boundary being in-specific. No tint or tonal variation from click-draggable region vs not.

Also, while the room name seems cleaner. I actually used the room description to link to a room scratchpad Google Document.

Having that visible was really helpful. (former design)

SPD [development]
Development Scratchpad: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...

I could click on the scratchpad link, and directly jump to our document that retains all the key information on development. To me directly linking to the room's scratchpad was more valuable than clicking the whole bar to toggle room info.
