If I do a 'mention' by tab-completing a displayname, it'd be lovely if we could somehow embed in the message the metadata of the userid being referenced, such that clients can interpret it 'correctly'

This could be a hyperlink to a matrix.to URL (or even an mx:// URL). Or Slack-style rich tagging.
