The stan R package community is adopting the use of algorithms like pathfinder to initialise their models. See the workflow in epinowcast/epinowcast#504.

Would be good to join the party.

We haven't made any great strides to getting this place. Anyone got the time to make some subissues to make it a bit more bite-size?
