Broken support for Grove/Gravity displays #5284

It seems that some update broke compatibility with some segment displays, e.g. Grove and Gravity from DFRobots (which supposedly were working with ESP32 before). Compiling the default examples throws various errors. The examples compile without problem on Arduino boards. See attached error logs for Gravity and Grove respectively:
