The URL http://fab16.fabevent.org/ seems to be still linked to the gitlab repo

Simply adding the URL to the CNAME file would resolve the problem?

You are right, I only pointed this URL to Github:
https://fab16.org/

Why do we need 2 urls for the same website?

It seems GitHub does not support multiple CNAME's:
