It would also be great to know whether that produce was flown or shipped in. Hard know on a specific basis but you could generalise. e.g. if it's a strawberry from spain in february then it's probably been flown so you would highlight it as bad. if it was a sweet potato then probably shipped so highlight as less bad. If there is community input it would be nice for people to highlight spots where you can buy local things. Rather than just showing what i can't do it would be great to show suggestions of what i can do. |
Note. another cool thing to add would be how bad a crop is in general. some crops require far more water and fertilser etc.. than others |
A general guide that shows what is when in season and where, could be part of this app! |

Describe the problem you'd like to solve
When I buy produce in supermarket I always look at its provenience. I prefer to buy when they are relatively local (the UK, preferably SE) and sometimes don't buy them at all if they had to cross the ocean and other retailer has the local ones. I would like to use an app that let's me to look across ratailers and look where are currently sold strawberries from. I would like to also be able to add info to the apps database for others like-minded people to see. I expect all of the information in the database to come from other users so there is no dependecy on information provided. I hate that food that we don't necessary need to consume have to travel a lot, using our planets resources to polute it more. Knowing there are other options would help to make a difference as it comes to climate change.
Who are the stakeholders?
Eco-conscious people, hopefully the planet and therefore us all.
What is currently being done to solve this problem?
We need to rely on information provided by the retailers/labels, which is scattered. I am not aware of any way to compare this information or have it all in one place.
