We have been working more and more with Julia recently, and we have a open-source IMAS.jl and and IMASdd.jl packages. One thing that we support is saving/loading native IMAS h5 format. In addition, we find the Julia packages to be much faster than their Python counterparts.
I have recently being experimenting with writing a Python wrapper (called omasjl) around IMAS.jl that allows it to create an ODS with the same functionality of the OMAS ones. This seems to be working quite well (though it still needs a bit of work to ensure 100% compatibility).
I suspect a similar approach could likely be used for IMASpy?
If there's interest in omasjl I may try to find a bit of time to further expand the cross-compatibility with omas...
