LinkHandler for News of type Internal Page and External Page

I can extend the LinkHandler with News Links like described here: https://docs.typo3.org/p/georgringer/news/main/en-us/Tutorials/BestPractice/Linkhandler/Index.html

But if the News is of type internal page or external page, the link is not build as expected, but generated as a Link to the Detail Page.
Is it possible to detect news with the type of internal and external news and render the link correct like in the News LinkViewHelper? Or would it be possible to add a Service like the GeorgRinger\News\Service\LinkHandlerTargetPageService->process ?
