So, I am just spitting ideas here.
I acknowledge, that Solus does already in terms of communication (Sync Notes, Blog posts) far better than most other distros.
However, I'd like to suggest to go even one step further.
There are examples for occasions where updates are special and unusual. For example the usr-merge, or the linux-firmware splitting. Those unusual updates lead to confusion and many inquiries on Forum, Reddit, Matrix chanels.
It would be ideal to get the word out and all users informed BEFORE those updates occur/are applied. Right now, we only get users informed who are on reddit, the forum, the Matrix Chanels. Not all users lurk around there.
One way to achieve this would be to have eopkg print a info message on special occaions when updating. However, I don't see how this could be applied to Discover/GNOME software.
The easiest way to achieve this in my opinion is to have a Solus Announcements Center, that is basically a crippled rss reader that reads only one source. This would run in background and inform users for new announcements via notification.
Clicking the notification opens the Announcement center.
The Solus Announcements Center could list Blog posts, Release Notes, Sync notes, and special announcements in chronological order.
For Blog posts, Release Notes, Sync notes you could simply link to the blog posts and the sync notes.
For special announcements like usr-merge update, linux-firmware update, a small text of 1 to 3 sentences would be enough to give users a heads up.
This Center would also be a great tool to build a bigger Solus community forum-wise, since some announcements link to the forum.
This Center would reduce support burden and be a great tool to keep users informed in a build-in way.
This would also set Solus apart from other distros.
