I hope you’ve been doing well and had a great start to the year. Thank you again for responding to my Twitter DM regarding your experience with the EV grant. I’m now preparing to submit an application of my own—focusing on writing a series of whitepapers on AI policy in Africa and pursuing a machine learning apprenticeship—and would greatly appreciate hearing more about how “career development” was defined for you.

Specifically:
• What exactly did career development mean for you? Pursuing independent research? Improving technical skills? Doing an apprenticeship with a ML practitioner?
• Did you already know where you’d apply those skills (industry, academia, starting your own company)?
• In your view, how important is it to have a clear post-grant path identified at the application stage?
