Buttons are meant to trigger actions in-page, links are meant to take you to another page. If, for some reason, you can't use a element to trigger in-page action, you can apply role=button in this manner..... but in this site, it's purely used for styling/appearance.

Switch all instances of a[role=button] to a[class=button], and adapt styles accordingly.
