I'm on a Pixel 4a running Android 11, running Pedometer 1.5.11 from F-Droid. When I set my phone to hide sensitive notification content from the lock screen, Pedometer does not give me a way to opt into showing the full step count on the lock screen, but only hide or show a placeholder. The API to use is at https://developer.android.com/training/notify-user/build-notification#lockscreenNotification . This claims that "the user always has final control over whether their notifications are visible on the lock screen and can even control that based on your app's notification channels." But on my phone, I was unable to show notification contents.
Maybe you should add an app settings toggle, rather than simply redirecting to the system notification settings.
