Add a user.field on create account ?

hello,

I am trying to install Rodauth on an existing application. I have linked my User model as indicated in the documentation. I have a 'user.username' field and would like to add to my registration form. It is not a login identifier.

Can i add this field save it in my users table on create account ?

I've already looked at this page, but it's not really clear to me (or my brain).

in my rodauth_main :
accounts_table :users
so my table is already associated with the accounts table? When I create a user, it's created in my user table.

in my user table I have the fields email & nickname. I use nickname to create a slug with FriendlyId.

I tried to add the field as shown:

  before_create_account do
    unless nickname = param_or_nil(“nickname”)
      throw_error_status(422, “nickname”, “must be present”)
    end

    # Assign the new field to the account record
    account[:nickname] = nickname
  end

but without success :(

So, you added a nickname (or username) text field to the form in the create account view template, and you have the above configuration, and the nickname isn't being set? Do you get a validation error that nickname must be present? Or do you not get a validation error but the nickname isn't persisted?

Can you spot any differences between your app and the official Rails demo app that could cause the demo app to work but your app not? If not, I would need you to share a minimal Rails app that reproduces the problem.

Thanks for your help, I managed to pass the pseudo but this validation doesn't work and user is registered

  unless pseudo = param(“pseudo”)
   throw_error_status(422, “pseudo”, “must be present”)
  end

but this one does:
pseudo = param(“pseudo”)

  if pseudo.to_s.empty? || pseudo.nil?
    throw_error_status(422, “pseudo”, “must be present”)
  end
  account[:pseudo] = pseudo

I confess I don't really understand why...

Rodauth's param method converts nil into "", so that it doesn't need to handle absence & empty cases separately. So, you should check for emptiness instead of falsy value.
