Describe the feature you'd like
Not really a feature, but it's not a bug either...

It would be nice to migrate the remaining Java code to Kotlin.

Additional context
It should be simpler to maintain & contribute with a codebase with a single language, especially for a Kotlin app. Migrating Java to Kotlin would leave only Kotlin & JS.

I would be happy to work on this, taking an incremental approach (e.g. one file per PR at a time).
