Please describe your bug

Video will not play properly in the Android app. If I use a browser, everything works fine. Sound is fine in the app. If I tap the screen over and over, videos will play. No dropped frames reported. Using a Samsung Galaxy s21.

I have the same issue. The Android App is lagging, no matter if direct play or transcoding. The Web App via Android Browser is working fine.

I have the same bug, happen only with the integrated browser player, and work only when screen get input like moving fingers on the screen. Happen since today on my Xiaomi mi 10t lite with android 12

I found a workaround, go install WebView beta in the play store and go change web view implémentation in the dev settings of the phone, it should immediately work better ( standard WebView is version 106, the actual beta is 108)

So it's a android WebView bug

That worked for a little bit now it's the same as before. Still using the beta but back to choppy again. If I touch the screen while playing, it's smooth. Weird. Thanks, MP

Yeah so, I have the same problem actually and I found that the solution is to switch from 1 webview to another everyday. The problem is coming everyday almost like there was a cache problem with WebView... It's really annoying I know... But at least it's kinda fixable

Same issue in Samsung S21 Ultra, no webview changes improve this.

Same issue here on a Pixel 6a. If I access Jellyfin via Firefox mobile it plays fine. One thing I've noticed is that the browser will play the encoded MP4 natively however the same file will be transcoded on the Jellyfin Android app - it says the bitrate is too... (cuts off, I imagine it says "high"). I don't know if that is a lead or not but hope it helps.

I just realized this is a duplicate of #853. Closing this in favor of the earlier ticket now.

Unfortunately the WebView bug is out of our control, as an alternative I suggest using the integrated player if it supports all the features you need.

Our long term plan is to replace the web player anyway, once the integrated player works well enough.
