I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that it would be consistent with the terms of the license to offer a download button as long as you make the license terms clear and give information about where the source code may be found. |

@jgm Thank you very much for the great work on Pandoc ❤️. We are considering using Pandoc in AI Studio (https://github.com/MindWorkAI/AI-Studio). AI Studio uses the FSL-1.1-MIT license (cf. https://fsl.software/), which is not compatible with GPL. I have seen and read Issue #180. What we presumably cannot do is deliver the appropriate executables together with AI Studio.
However, would it be appropriate for us to offer the user a download button in AI Studio? If the user clicks on it, we would ask if they accept GPL 2 and want to download and install Pandoc. When the user accepts, AI Studio could execute the download and unpack the data. AI Studio would then consider Pandoc as an external application. Whenever Pandoc would be needed for a task, we would start a new Pandoc process.
Would this be okay, @jgm? 🙂
