Hooking into meta data "change" and document delete events

Hello, it would be really cool if one could hook into meta-data- and document-change "events". Each time metadata is changed or a document is created/deleted a custom hook function/script could be called. Custom functions/scripts could be used to feed other systems documents and metadata using e.g. a python script implementing CMIS functions.
