I find that if I want to use a ? Or ! I will touch the right shift key and swipe over to either key. I find this a quick and easy way. Obviously with swipeselection, it now selects text.
Solution1: require the user to hold down the shift key to select text. You would also have to differentiate between a swipe and caps letter input.
Solution2: ability to choose only the right shift key for text selection. Dunno if that's a good idea or not. Maybe a combo of the ideas?

I would also love the ability to disable the left shift selection.
I make capital letters on my iPhone by dragging from left shift and releasing on the key I want capitalized. I find the backspace key (which acts as the backwards moving selection since there isn't a right shift key) to be an easy substitute for forward selection but making capital letters with two taps is much more common and cumbersome.
