Steps to reproduce the bug

I believe this is a problem that has always existed or at least for 6+ years. At certain moments in time (my best guess is when a current arena is closer to its ending time) it no longer appears in the home page's section of arenas (nor in the upper left corner of highlights). See screenshots, focus on Crazyhouse arenas shown there:

While at the same time there is a "Daily crazyhouse arena" running if we see the chart in "Tournaments" page:

What did you expect to happen?

I expect to see the "Daily Crazyhouse Arena" in the Home page's "Open tournaments" section no matter if only 20 minutes remain or more.

If the currently running arena was part of a team like most of the "Hourly Crazyhouse" arenas, then I believe same problem also exist if the arena is closer to its end, in that case I would also expect that arena to be visible in the Highlights area in the upper left corner and again also in the "Open Tournaments" as long as it is active even if just 1 minute remains.

What happened instead?

Current running arena not visible in home page, making it necessary to make additional navigation to the "Tournaments" page and scroll that chart, instead of being able to always at any time to quickly find the currently running arena for the variant I am interested in in the home page "Open tournaments"/Highlights areas

Another example of in this case bad ordering in addition to the bad filtering in the original bug description.

The currently running arena is at least included in the list, but is not on top, instead on top are displayed arenas that would not be of interest for the next 1+ hours:

and you have to scroll down to find the active arena:

(Again focus only Crazyhouse arenas in these screenshots)

I can give this one a shot!

in terms of Arena ordering, what do we think would more appropriate. Simply segmenting them into active and then inactive arenas, or are we looking for some ordering amongst the active/inactive arenas as well?

it's showing you your team tournaments first. It's intended.

Ahhh gotcha! How about the original bug in question? Is that intended behavior as well? If not, I can take a crack at it.

About the original problem - "filtering out arenas that are close to finishing":
I re-checked just now, because I am not sure my original screenshots actually demonstrate the problem I had in mind - I suspect when I created those snapshots I might have experienced the "sorting" problem instead and just had to scroll down to see the Daily Arena, because it still has 20 minutes, which is a lot and usually such arenas are still visible.

However now I took some screenshots again and the problem starts to appear around 5-6 minutes before the end of the arenas that are not team arenas but the "official" ones. Following screenshots were made around 1 minute appart and you can see how the "active" arenas in the list are fewer than the one actually active and eventually completely disappear (you can still see the team crazyhouse arena has 6mins remaining, but all official ones are missing, even though they must have 3 more minutes - they end 3 mins before the team one but should be still active if the team one has 6min more):

About the secondary problem with ordering of the list of tournaments.

A compromise that at the same time preserve the priority treatment of team arenas, but still avoids listing potentially irrelevant arenas before the more relevant (currently active) ones could be if for each team, if it has more than one upcoming arenas, to only show a single one on top - the one that is most near in the future. Then after all such team arenas - one per team, show the list of active ones, then after that the rest of the team arenas, if any, that are further away in the future so potentially less relevant for the user at precisely this moment, given a more recent arenas for that team has already been promoted on top.
