I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon in Virtualbox on a Windows host. I pause the VM and then resume it after an hour or so, and sometimes the screensaver starts and I can't get it to stay off. I can move the mouse or press a key and it disappears and then immediately reappears.
I tried killing screensaver processes, but the screensaver still keeps popping up. But when I sent the shutdown signal, that seemed to stop it, even though I canceled the shutdown dialog.
This sounds like it could be an issue due to the time shifting while the VM is paused. Have you tried using the built-in Inhibit Applet or adjusting the power management settings?
I tried messing with the time and pausing/resuming the VM, but I didn't get the problem to repeat; it's only now and then that it happens.
I should be fine if I disable the screensaver, but it would also be nice to have some check to prevent that behavior.
