Granularity of base timeline restricted

I tried the package successfully, but for another application I would need a finer output.
My event series consists of 78 entries like

\event{\decimaldate{04}{05}{1771}}{04.,05.~1771\quad\rule{3ex}{3pt}~sometext}
\event{\decimaldate{10}{05}{1771}}{10.,05.~1771\quad\rule{2ex}{3pt}~someothertext}

I tried that with

\begin{chronology}[1]{1771}{1772}{25cm} % optional argument <1 not working

which obviously does not result in a readable timeline.
Being illiterate in TikZ/PGF I would appreciate to have a solution for that in a future version of chronology.sty
