Describe the bug
We can't drag and drop/move the texts to the holes on mobile environment Apple IOS or Google Android (with tactile interface)

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the questions bank in a course (from a desktop environment)
  2. Create a new question based on gapfill question type
  3. Use a mobile device based on Apple IOS or Google Android environment
  4. Go to the question bank and preview the question
  5. It is totally impossible to move the texts from a tactile interface ...

Expected behavior
Use a gapfill question from a mobile environment (with tactile interface)

Additionnal informations:

  • Moodle V 4.1.6+
  • Gapfill plugin V. 2.138
  • Apple IOS version of the test environment : 17.1.2
  • Google Android version of the test environment : 13

Thank you for your help (this plugin is really useful for our university because a lot of evaluations are made from mobile tablets)

Another details : we use use the Adaptable Theme but the problem is the same if we switch to Boost Theme. We access to the question thru a browser (and not thru the mobile app). Here is a XML moodle backup of the question we have used for the test.

Thank you for your detailed report (especially that you have tried it on the core theme). Would you be able to give me access to a course as a student so I can reproduce it. Also (purely out of curiosity), where in the world are you? You can email the login details to me at marcusavgreen at gmail dot com.

Hi again Marcus,

I live in France.

I made another tries meantime and I succeded in moving the text if I keep the finger on the text for 1 or 2 seconds ... The test works for safari and firefox on IOS. I works for Google Chrome on Android but not for firefox on Android.

If you want to made some tests by yourseld, I let you connect on this open platform with your google account and I will give you afterwards an access as student to a test course : [https://monunivr.univ-rouen.fr]

Thank you fro your quick answer and your help.

Hi again Marcus,

Here is the direct URL of the test course (you are now enrolled in it with a student role): https://monunivr.univ-rouen.fr/course/view.php?id=96

Otherwise, take your time ... The issue is not so urgent.

Thank you for your help.

Cordially.

Hi Nadav
I have just tested with the latest version of Android Chrome 129.0.668.81 and gapfill 2024042300 on Moodle 4.4 and it appeared to "work". I put quotes around work because although the drag and drop happens, there is no image/ghost during the drag. Can you give me student access to a site/course so I can reproduce it.

Thank you @marcusgreen , I will create a quiz that can be accessible to you, and send you details in telegram.

Hi Nadav
I suspect the answer will involve re-factoring to use a different approach to drag and drop. I would also like to have an option for setting up the response to use click to select and click to drop like with the mobile app. Now if you have some funding :)

Hi @marcusgreen , me bad :-(
It seems we had some patches to your version, which broke something.
I am still not sure which one broke it, but we will find it :-)

btw, we are also considering the "Click&Click" concept for mobile.
I will send it over when we finish it.

Patching will break your warrenty under the GPL (But you can apply for a full refund) :)
But as I mentioned although the d/d worked under Android it didn't work very well so it would be good to investigate that also Click to pick Click to drop is very interesting.

Are you pursuing the AIText thing (As in exploring for the purpose of putting in front of actual students)
