Describe your issue

So this shit can't update anything, just uninstalled bunch of crap that it was supposed to update and nearly all of the updates couldn't be performed.
An example would be elgato wave link system which has been uninstalled then it craped out it's not available in winget but when running winget find -q "elgato" it was available. I should've looked at the amount of issues open before trying things like that.

Steps to reproduce the issue

So this shit can't update anything

Let's just keep things respectful, please.

First of all, failed updates are really getting uninstalled, or the update does only disappear from Widgets for UniGetUI?

Secondly, does this same issue happen when updating packages from UniGetUI, or only from the widgets? (you opened a bug report for the widgets. Is this what you wanted to do)?

Thirdly, updating the failing packages from winget (winget upgrade <your package here>) does also fail? r does it then work?.

It literally uninstalled Elgato Wave Link from my system. For others it just says things like

Installation options: <InstallationOptions: SkipHashCheck=False;InteractiveInstallation=False;RunAsAdministrator=False;Version=;Architecture=;InstallationScope=;InstallationScope=;CustomParameters=;RemoveDataOnUninstall=False>
Executing process with StartInfo:
 - FileName: "C:\Users\JS\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget.exe"
 - Arguments: "update --id "Discord.Discord" --exact --source winget --accept-source-agreements --disable-interactivity --silent --include-unknown --accept-package-agreements --force"
Start Time: "16/02/2025 6:41:39 pm"
The package cannot be upgraded using winget. Please use the method provided by the publisher for upgrading this package.
End Time: "16/02/2025 6:41:41 pm"
Process return value: "-1978334956" (0x8A150114)
Discord could not be updated

Which is also wild, like, why is there an update for something it cannot update ?

Installation options: <InstallationOptions: SkipHashCheck=False;InteractiveInstallation=False;RunAsAdministrator=False;Version=;Architecture=;InstallationScope=;InstallationScope=;CustomParameters=;RemoveDataOnUninstall=False>
Executing process with StartInfo:
 - FileName: "C:\Users\JS\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget.exe"
 - Arguments: "update --id "JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh" --exact --source winget --accept-source-agreements --disable-interactivity --silent --include-unknown --accept-package-agreements --force"
Start Time: "16/02/2025 6:45:08 pm"
A newer version was found, but the install technology is different from the current version installed. Please uninstall the package and install the newer version.
End Time: "16/02/2025 6:45:10 pm"
Process return value: "-1978335189" (0x8A15002B)
Oh My Posh could not be updated

This shouldn't even be an option if it's known it not going to be updated.

This shouldn't even be an option if it's known it not going to be updated.

Please run the command winget upgrade --id "JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh" on a command prompt, and test if the error shown is the same. If it is, I am afraid you should follow the instructions provided by WinGet.

UniGetUI is an interface that can be used to interact with WinGet, among other package managers. If WinGet cannot update a package, neither will UniGetUI

Example of something that's newest version but shows probably the one that it was at the time when installed.

This I don't even know.

They are failing, but, as said, please try to upgrade them via WinGet, and see if the issue persists.

winget upgrade --id "JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh"
A newer version was found, but the install technology is different from the current version installed. Please uninstall the package and install the newer version.
So this returns the message. Which in cli means it cannot be upgraded. In gui this stays in software updates and will retry to update.

If you want to, you can right-click failing updates -> skip this version or ignore updates. Then, said updates won't show on UniGetUI anymore.

For packages that are failing updates, if you want you can reach the publisher and let them know that the update is failing via WinGet, or open an issue here: https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs
