wkhtmltopdf is showing its age now. It's been causing a lot of problems for the docker builds, and has never really generated the best PDF output. There's been issues with fonts, layout, etc. across many versions.

  • prawn might be an option, though much less flexible than leveraging HTML & CSS
  • weasyprint would be great, though would require some Ruby glue
  • athenapdf seems cool, but probably a bit too much
