Move the hit combo indicator higher on the screen where the enemies are. Make the health bars bigger and add some effects when taking damage to make it easier to see when you take damage and more satisfying when the enemies do. A bigger health bar makes the chunk that you deal when hurting things seem bigger. Now about damage numbers: I suggest making them spawn way higher on the enemy, closer to the top instead of the bottom. Also, slightly randomize their spawning location so they don't blend together in a line. Lastly just tweak their movement to instead of having a linear speed have an exponential speed or something like that (not sure of the term) so they start really fast, moving away from in front of the enemy you need to see, then slowing down when they've moved away so you can read them.
