value recommender no longer working

When I tried running the Value Recommender demo here, it doesn't recommend any values when filling out the template in that directory. The template is set up to enable value recommender on several fields.

@marcosmro reports via email that he is not seeing any calls to the value recommender.

Is this a fixable problem or an intentional downgrade? Strongly hoping for the former.

The good news is that all aspects of the feature are still there.

However, we have discovered that the process for generating the Elasticsearch (now OpenSearch) index for this feature is extremely inefficient when reindexing on a system with significant content (e.g., production).

We are going to see if we can fix this.
