When using Office365 online, users have the ability to open the document in the "Desktop App", which provides a much better UX.

However, when using our WOPI integration, the "Open in Desktop App" option is unavailable.

Is it possible to enable this in the WOPI integration? I was unable to find any documentation about it. I did see that the documentation used to mention it in passing but the reference was removed in 2017.

Additionally, this question on the Microsoft forum seems to suggest that this is unavailable. (I'm also found #452 but I'm unsure if it's related).

If it's not possible to enable the desktop app integration, is this on the roadmap at all for WOPI?

Hi @ndench,

The Cloud Storage Partner Program (CSPP) does not include the "Open in Desktop App" functionality. CSPP only includes the web experiences. Quoting from the linked documentation:

"Integrate Office for the web into your experiences to empower users to view
and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents stored directly on the cloud."

If you'd like to enable desktop client support, including coauthoring, then you might be interested in the Cloud Storage Partner Program Plus (CSPP Plus). Quoting from that documentation:

"CSPP Plus is a new paid-program tier intended for a very limited set of
highly qualified partners requiring deeper interop with Microsoft 365.

Please note that the qualifications listed here are not an exhaustive list,
and entry to this program tier is extremely selective."

Notably this deeper interop includes:

"Coauthoring in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Office for the web,
Office Desktop, and Microsoft 365 for mobile. Expected Q2 2022."

Best regards,
Rob Rolnick

Hey @RobRol, I've actually just tried to contact [email protected] in order to enquire about the CSPP Plus program, however it appears that email address does not exist.

Would you be able to locate the correct email address for me by any chance?
