I know the framework team has no intention of adding a .Net Core version of the report viewer, is it possible that the RS/SSRS/BI team would consider doing so? If not could someone at least explain the reasoning for not doing this? Reporting Services is integral to quite a lot of businesses.

This is a major blocker for moving to .Net Core.
