When I press "Import from your Facebook friends"
I get the message "Could not fetch your friends from Facebook.".

Hello, is this a newly created Facebook application? Could you see if there is any output in the site error log (not the tree one)?

i got this too and no nothing in the logs

This is likely since you created your Facebook Apps after April 30 when Facebook broke this. :-( See https://developers.facebook.com/bugs/1502515636638396/

Facebook still hasn't changed their mind on this so the pre-approval feature won't work for now for websites that created their Facebook App after April 30. I have an idea in #16 that may allow for pre-approval if you send a request (aka. spam) the Facebook friends you want to pre-approve.
