Maybe there could be some good enough generic way telling that target area might not be safe.
Or another solution, just call it technical issue within jumpdrive subspace sensors: it can simply detect if there's nothing (vacuum) but can't really tell difference.
yeah, that explanation doesn't really make sense if you ask why stone and lava is different then but at least there was an attempt...
we get a warning when the jump target is in vacuum but a lava jump is much more dangerous I think.
