I tried all my google speakers (2 google home minis and 1 nest audio) and set mkchromecast as my default audio device.
no audio plays on the speakers

Ctrl-C to kill the Application at any Time
Could you try again, adding --backend ffmpeg to your existing command? I don't know whether this will actually change the behavior, but ffmpeg tends to do some more verbose logging, which may help to understand what's going on.
