It would be great if this was in the debian repos - it should be possible to automatically add to PAM too since the ecryptfs-utils package does the same

While I do use this package on one of my production machines, I do not yet consider this ready to be included in distros. There are still a few issues to solve -- and especially for Debian a package ending up upstream will be used for ages, even if a more recent version is available. I will definitely looking into packaging this module some point in the future. However, I will most likely start with packages for Arch and Gentoo, as the user base should be used messing with their system and be able to repair it should things go wrong. Could be that a NixOS package already exists, btw.

Messing with the system config is, historically, in the department of disto maintainers. Usually it is done by the package, but scripts for modifying the PAM config will definitely not make it into this repo. I'll have to look into how things are done for the target distro when the time comes.
