DICOM data consideration

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Widely-used open source solutions related to viewing medical images and even manual annotation (segmentation, metrics measurements) (e.g. Weasis) consider only DICOM data. Our workflow uses nifti, and such solution do not consider nifti.

Describe the solution you'd like
To be inclusive, we should add an option to consider DICOM data (if feasible, for example by converting the DICOM images into nrrd or nifti, enabling their use in the 3D Slicer module)

Describe alternatives you've considered
Use already existing solutions for handling DICOM data.
