There are a number of standard .gitignores available:

R related:
https://github.com/nhs-r-community/assets/blob/main/.gitignore

Quarto related:
https://github.com/nhs-r-community/nhs-r-community/blob/main/.gitignore

Comprehensive for more languages:
https://github.com/nhsengland/GP_access/blob/main/.gitignore

Should the .gitignore standard for NHS-R be comprehensive as new users may take this as a good start for their own repositories?
