Conference
The ICC is accessible to wheelchair users via both ramps and lifts and has unisex, wheelchair-accessible toilets. The conference room can be set up with a hearing loop. We will be asking all delegates for any specific requirements including dietary ahead of the conference.
We discussed whether to follow HACA’s catering plan with a 50% vegetarian, 25% vegan and 25% meat option or whether to go 50/50 vegetarian/vegan. We agreed that everyone should be able to speak up and have food at the conference that they will enjoy.
Sponsorship
Antastasiia is currently in discussion with NHSE regarding sponsorship and will report back when more is known.
Jumping Rivers recently reached out to us regarding sponsorship and we are currently waiting for some dates to organise an initial meeting. Mohammed is also discussing options with Jumping Rivers.
Bianca has contacted OR and will also contact RSS and BCS.
AphA has been invited as a partner organisation.
NHS-R Community Governance Group
This is a newly formed Strategy Unit steering group formed of Zoë Turner, Chris Beeley, Peter Spilsbury, Mohammed Mohammed, Stewart Loughlin, Mark Thompson and Karen Bradley with a remit to update on NHS-R activity.
The first meeting was held on 5 June and included a discussion about sponsorship. It was suggested we need to have some criteria to reduce prejudice when making decisions about whether to accept sponsorship from certain organisations.
We agreed that we will always happily accept sponsorship from non-profit making organisations. We could accept sponsorships from corporate organisations as an exception and would need a strong reason to do so. Action: Chris B to produce guidelines
Surplus funds
In organising the conference, we have been careful with how funds have been spent, resulting in there being a surplus. The exact number is not known yet but once known we can agree how much could be put towards an attendance support fund. The Health Foundation have confirmed that this is acceptable as their funding is for the betterment of NHS-R. However, if NHSE were able to provide funding then we would not be able to use any excess funds for the conference support fund. The support fund could pay for travel/accommodation and would be booked by us to ensure adherence to our transport policies.
Strategy
Fraser Battye from the SU is looking at running a Strategy course, this would be free to attend with a request to provide honest feedback in return. Zoë has suggested the NHS-R Committee members may wish to attend – please let Zoë know if you are interested.
Communication partnerships
Zoë has entered the NHS-R Community details with HDRUK and asked the Committee which organisations we might wish to align ourselves with going forwards. All agreed that it would be good to continue to work closely with AphA.
Podcasts
Zoë is uploading all podcasts onto YouTube and they are already getting lots of hits. If anyone might be interested in being interviewed, please let Zoë know.
Fellowships
Zoë is currently working on the clarity and purpose of fellowships and will circulate a revised draft for discussion in due course.
AOB
Lyn is currently converting the Intermediate R course into multimedia format and is in discussion with the NHS Leadership academy to enable anyone with an NHS.net email address to get for this training for free.
