Enhancement: sorting of events on the landing page

The six tiles for events on the landing page are confusing. I know that the sort order is from future to past translated into tiles sorted from left to right and top to bottom. Thus the future-most event will be in the top left and the oldest event will be in the bottom right. While logical this is extremely confusing because the current date has no fixed position in this grid.
