I'd also suggest adding icons for the different sectors, similar to Les secteurs d'intervention here:
http://transparence.ambafrance-ml.org/

NB -- there are two types of sectors in the data (every project has both). See the vocab attribute on each sector in the data:

• RO = corresponding to French CICID codes;
• DAC = corresponding to OECD-Development Assistance Committee codes.

The DAC codes roll up into broader headings from more disaggregated classifications (normally).

I would suggest using only one of these; or at least keeping them separate, to avoid confusion. I think DAC codes are probably better.

Btw RO stands for "Reporting Organisation". CICID stands for the interministerial development committee:

I'm really in favour of using icons!
The only problem here is that, in my opinion, those are not readable and elegant enough. And I will miss time for working on this myself.

There are some options we can look at:

• maki ones (https://www.mapbox.com/maki/, plus some more made for HOT: https://github.com/hotosm/HDM-CartoCSS/blob/master/icons/poi/_nori.svg)
• OCHA ones http://thenounproject.com/ochaavmu/
• mapicons: http://mapicons.nicolasmollet.com/

About categories of sector, thanks for those details! I will chose one, as you suggest. "DAC" seems also better as it's the default of the IATI standard, so let's go for those :)

Maki looks really nice. Could use something like this? (using CICID sector codes)
