Creating records based on DOAJ #19
Comments
Copying them over manually is a bit tedious (that's why I stopped at 10). It would help to at least pull the journal classified as archaeology from the DOAJ API and generate JSON in our format, which could then be manually filtered for relevance. Then we could look at adjacent categories (just looking quickly I can see relevant stuff under anthropology, geography, environmental sciences, etc.) |
I can make some time to go through the records once you pull them from DOAJ. |
Not sure if you already found this, but maybe it could help? https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/roadoi/index.html |
Thanks! This could be really helpful. I intend to get going on this this weekend 🫡 |
I finally made a list of journals listed under DOAJ that may not fit our desired scope -- sorry for the long delay. I arrived at this list by visiting the websites of journals listed according to the following search parameters:
As of today (2025-02-05), this query finds 294 journals. If I were to include journals with fees, the query produces 334 journals. Two subject facets are returned when searching for archaeology in the list of subjects: "Auxiliary sciences of history >> Archaeology", and "Geography / Anthropology >> Anthropology >> Prehistoric archaeology". Of the 294 results, only 161 appear in the "Auxiliary sciences of history >> Archaeology" facet and only 17 appear in the "Geography / Anthropology >> Anthropology >> Prehistoric archaeology" facet. I went through the journals by year they were added to DOAJ. It would be great if others can go through these to verify the decision to exclude them or argue for their inclusion. EDIT to add: my inclusion criteria were that the journal explicitly mentioned archaeology in its description of itself, aims or scoping statement, and that I was able to access the journal website to check on this. 2024https://doaj.org/toc/0018-1005 https://doaj.org/toc/2949-2866 https://doaj.org/toc/2620-2719 https://doaj.org/toc/1304-5482 2023https://doaj.org/toc/1232-1575 https://doaj.org/toc/1760-6659 https://doaj.org/toc/1304-0618 https://doaj.org/toc/2616-4280 https://doaj.org/toc/2263-8911 https://doaj.org/toc/0214-7165 https://doaj.org/toc/1810-4487 2022https://doaj.org/toc/2414-9012 https://doaj.org/toc/2452-3666 https://doaj.org/toc/2748-6419 https://doaj.org/toc/1582-7151 https://doaj.org/toc/2303-7539 https://doaj.org/toc/0071-1861 https://doaj.org/toc/2686-7702 https://doaj.org/toc/2686-973X https://doaj.org/toc/2738-2710 2021https://doaj.org/toc/0552-4245 https://doaj.org/toc/2709-8680 https://doaj.org/toc/2072-2087 https://doaj.org/toc/0874-2375 https://doaj.org/toc/0137-4079 https://doaj.org/toc/2407-9677 https://doaj.org/toc/2724-587X 2020https://doaj.org/toc/0252-8835 https://doaj.org/toc/2697-3553 https://doaj.org/toc/0854-3232 https://doaj.org/toc/2413-7065 2019https://doaj.org/toc/2412-2467 https://doaj.org/toc/2520-6338 https://doaj.org/toc/1410-9700 https://doaj.org/toc/2532-0335 https://doaj.org/toc/0076-230X 2018https://doaj.org/toc/2460-8300 https://doaj.org/toc/0553-6707 https://doaj.org/toc/0327-5752 https://doaj.org/toc/2076-2577 2017https://doaj.org/toc/1131-7698 https://doaj.org/toc/2451-6821 2015https://doaj.org/toc/1657-4923 https://doaj.org/toc/2312-461X https://doaj.org/toc/2174-0178 2014https://doaj.org/toc/1998-9938 https://doaj.org/toc/0924-0608 https://doaj.org/toc/2038-7709 https://doaj.org/toc/1853-8037 2010https://doaj.org/toc/1989-9289 https://doaj.org/toc/2042-4752 2008https://doaj.org/toc/1891-5426 |
Creating this issue to discuss how we should create records based on items listed in DOAJ.
I'm of the opinion that we should manually verify records for relevance, since the DOAJ classifies archaeology in a weird way (as an "auxiliary science of history"). It is also likely that there are relevant journals outside this category.
Some questions to address include:
Any other discussion relating to importing DOAJ records (aside from the issues of relevance) should also be included here.
