Dependencies:
** cloud provider
** digital access to a service
Additional context:
Quite often the worlds of personal and business overlap. There may be accounts assigned the the deceased that are tied to a business they partially own or work for.
The goal of the interaction:
How to gain access to online resources shared with the business. While there may be others within the business that can access the resources, there would be a desire to reassign ownership of some resources so they can be managed.
What actually happened:
Surviving business partner or co-worker may have access to online resources created by the deceased. However, the ability to modify or share with others is often limited to the creator of the content. Similarly, there may be some company related accounts the deceased created that need to be closed or transferred to someone else within the company.
Qualitative assessment of what went wrong, what would have helped, etc.:
There are a number of privacy concerns here. It is important that the deceased properly categorized some accounts/resources as business related. Without the classification before death, it would be difficult to assess who should have access.
A possible solution might be to rely on an executor of the will to access digital assets that dont have ownership and release them to various parties. This makes a big assumption that we can provide a list of the digital assets tied to the deceased.
