I am running ubuntu 2.1.9 with an encrypted root. During boot time, I am prompted for a password to decrypt the root pool.
I am trying to upgrade to kernel 6.1. However, the ZFS package on ubuntu must be updated for 6. x kernel. So I first need to upgrade zfs. Unforatly there are no pre-built packages beyond 2.1.6.
I instead followed the instructions to build my deb. This worked, and I could install the ZFS 2.1.9 with the build deb packages.
However, I cannot reboot as the system is not prompting me to unlock the pool. I instead get an error saying it cannot find the key.
After hours and hours of t-shooting, I believe zfs-mount-generator is meant to handle the prompt but it is not... This means the key is not created causing the zfs script to fail.. However, it is not working for whatever reason, and I am getting lost/stuck on how to move fw hence this ticket.
For now. I booted into livecd, uninstalled zfs 2.1.9, and reinstalled the packages from the ubuntu repo, and I could boot back in.
Can someone explain or point me how zfs-mount-generator works? The manual is not much help. There is something in the complied zfs packages vs the latest zfs packages that causes issues during boot on ubuntu.
