Before January 1st, we need to have a new domain for Cog as operable.io will be expiring. This issue is the place to propose new names. Each suggestion should be placed in its own comment, and most thumbs up emojis will take it.

Each should:

  • Name is available in URL and GitHub org
  • Name is either unique, or speaks to what Cog does somehow

Do we have an issue on "should we change the name at all?"
Unless there are some trademark issues with operable, we should stick with cog (domain unavailability is temporary and solvable) - the pain to change names is worse than solve the domain/namespace unavailability IMHO.

  • We could use /botcog @ github
  • We could use botcog.io (available)

The rest (content) stays as cog, including everything that it's already written and branded. Further down the road, the .bot domain should arrive any time soon, so we may as well grab the cog.bot domain.

@splashx As mentioned in Slack, this isn't about changing the name of Cog, the bot, but of Operable, the organization. The change is intended to help give the project new life and avoid people conflating "Operable shut down" with "Cog is dead".

Dropping an option:

  • /botcog @ github
  • botcog.io (available)

A few more ideas:

  • cog-bot.io
  • cogme.io
  • iamcog.io (.com is also available)

I do like the cog.bot idea if we can jump on that.

@jesselang I like cog-bot.io, in fact I had thought about it too but /cog-bot @ github is taken 😭

I like cog-bot.io until the bot domain is ready.

My coworker picked up the cog-bot user awhile back apparently in Github if we want to take it over.
