Hello Beautiful people. The 2023 Google Summer of Code is around the corner, and yes, we are applying again this year.

A Bit About GSOC

The Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program allows new open-source contributors to gain real-world experience by working on a 12+ week coding project with one of about 200 open-source organizations under the guidance of dedicated mentors.

Program Goals

• To motivate developers to begin participating in open-source software development.
• To help open source projects bring in new developers into their communities.
• To give new contributors exposure to real-world open-source software development scenarios (testing, version control, software licensing, etc.).
• Create more open-source code for everyone.

Our Participation

AsyncAPI will be applying as an individual organization and also join forces with Postman in the hope of getting selected.

AsyncAPI Initiative is a community-driven organization that puts radical transparency at the core of its values.

This means all the work on proposals should take place in GitHub and be fully transparent.

Another good reason for this approach is that it is easy to identify duplicates and proposals with more than one candidate. We do not want to reject candidates just because there are too many for one proposals. Let us discover it sooner and make sure we can enable as many people as possible.

Project Ideas

If you are a project maintainer and are considering mentoring during the GSoC 2023 cycle, please, submit your ideas either as a GitHub issue(including the gsoc label), a separate discussion or as a comment below.

Proposal suggestions can be created by anyone. There is no specific template to follow, only common sense. Describe in a detailed way what it is about, what are the requirements and desired outcome. If the proposal suggestion misses some details - do not worry. We will follow up with a request for more clarification.

We will make sure there are mentors for each proposal.

Proposal Deadlines

The Mentoring organization application deadline is February 7 - 18:00 UTC, which means if you have a project idea, you need to submit it a day before the organization application deadline. This means you have a week to suggest your proposals :)

How to connect with us

• Join our Slack workspace. Just make sure to follow our Slack etiquette and the code of conduct.
• Join the dedicated GSoC channel #mentorships that we will use to coordinate the application process until coding starts. All mentees and mentors are there.

I have these candidates that did not make it or could not be done in GSoC and AsyncAPI Mentorship in the past:

• Library for easier integration testing of code generators generator#752 (it was selected in the past for AsyncAPI mentorship but I withdrew it in favor of having 2 mentees on Design System)
• Automate listing of members of technical steering committee .github#47 (this one also had lots of votes, it just lost with the randomizer app)

Both are still valid and needed.

I'd like to suggest the following issues for the server-api repo:

• Add help/{command} endpoint server-api#144 - we could also align with @magicmatatjahu to know more about the use case of this API 🙂
• Propagate envs in the K8S resources server-api#39
• Move to the npm ci in the Dockerfile server-api#36

Some may require more time, but I'm happy to help to anyone that wants to contribute 👍

Hey folks, sad to announce that AsyncAPI got rejected for GSoC this year, but the good news is that Postman got accepted, so we will participate under Postman, we might not be able to get all of our project ideas in but we'll try to get at least 1 from each mentor in.

Hey everyone.
I'm Chandra Sekhar, a prefinal year student at Lovely Professional University, India, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I've gained hands-on experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like Tailwind CSS and React.js, along with databases such as MySQL and MongoDB. My enthusiasm lies in expanding my knowledge of web development and contributing to projects through open source.
Last summer, I was involved in a project called "Bharat Legal Tech," where I gained valuable insights from designing to developing. We initiated the project from scratch, focusing on various aspects like white paper functionalities (SRS Document), User Flow, Low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity wireframes, and project development.
After going through the ideas list, I'm particularly interested in contributing to web development projects, I'm keen to work on the AsyncAPI Website UI Kit Development : asyncapi-archived-repos/design-system#4 I've reached out regarding my interest in this project and am eagerly awaiting a response. I'm eager to delve deeper into the project's details and scope.
