Community Survey

We are planning to launch a comprehensive community survey to gather valuable insights from our community members. This survey aims to understand our community's needs, preferences, and opinions, allowing us to improve. We strongly encourage everyone to participate and share their thoughts, questions, and ideas.

Objectives:

1. Gain a deeper understanding of our community:
   The survey will help us gather information, identify the interests and preferences of our community members, and understand their overall satisfaction with our organization's activities.
2. Identify areas for improvement:
   By collecting feedback, we can identify potential areas to enhance the overall community experience. This will enable us to address any concerns and tailor our efforts to meet our community's needs better.
3. Foster community engagement:
   The survey will encourage community members to participate actively, sparking conversations and encouraging collaboration. We aim to strengthen the community and build a sense of belonging by creating an open dialogue.

4. Survey Structure:
   The survey will consist of a carefully crafted questionnaire designed to gather a wide range of insights from our community members. The questions will cover the following:

• How long have you been a member of the AsyncAPI community, and where did you learn about us?
• On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your overall experience in our community?
• What motivated you to join our open-source community?
• How often do you actively participate in community activities (e.g., voting, discussions, contributions)?
• What do you consider to be the strengths of our community?
• Are there areas where you feel our community could improve? If yes, please provide specific suggestions.
• Have you faced any challenges or difficulties while participating in the community? If yes, please describe them.
• How well do you feel the community supports new members in getting started and integrating?
• Have you found connecting and collaborating with other community members easy? If not, please elaborate.
• How familiar are you with the community guidelines and code of conduct? Are they effectively enforced?
• How would you rate community maintainers' or code owners' availability and responsiveness when you have questions or issues?
• Have you witnessed or experienced any form of discrimination, harassment, or toxic behavior within the community? If yes, please provide details and explain why you didn't escalate it to the code of conduct.
• Are there any specific tools or resources that you would like to see implemented or improved in our community?
• How likely are you to recommend the AsyncAPI community to others?
• Is there anything else you would like to share or suggest to help us improve our community?

Launch Date:

The community survey will be live in the last week of July. We will announce it on Slack, social media, community blog, and newsletter, ensuring maximum visibility and participation.

Conclusion:

The success of our organization depends on active involvement and feedback from our community members. This community survey is essential to fostering engagement, understanding community needs, and improving our initiatives.

I'm only not sure if vacation is a good moment to release a survey, unless it will be out there very long

This is nice; I'm excited about surveys and research, so please count me in. However, in addition to the launch date, it would be nice to have an end date and the number of respondents we intend to get from the survey, as this will gauge the research's success and set a timeframe for us to analyze and implement the improvements. Or will it be open indefinitely? We may also include a few optional demographic questions to learn about the community's diversity.

I recently read the Linux Foundation’s DEI survey, which reminded me of our community survey. This is an excellent opportunity for us to gather meaningful insights about our community and improve our overall experience.

I’d like to propose conducting this survey through our mentorship program. This approach could make the process smoother and more engaging while attracting more UX researchers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within our community.

Given my background as a UX researcher, I’d be happy to mentor this project. I believe it can lead to valuable feedback that helps us strengthen our DEI efforts and create a more inclusive environment for everyone.

Hey @Mayaleeeee, one of the main reasons I initiated the survey was to assist me with community goals. Although this is still important, we must review the survey's objectives, scope, and how it will benefit the community and our initiatives.
