How to use IF statements to set variables?

According to the documentation, the following is possible:

    env:
      - CGO_ENABLED=0
      - >-
        {{- if eq .Os "darwin" }}
          {{- if eq .Arch "amd64"}}CC=o64-clang{{- end }}
          {{- if eq .Arch "arm64"}}CC=aarch64-apple-darwin20.2-clang{{- end }}

          {{- if eq .Arch "amd64" }}CC=x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc{{- end }}
        {{- end }}

In this scenario, how is the value of CXX retrieved or used? Since it is in the env section, I would expect it to be {{.Env.CXX}}. However, if I have the following:

builds:
  - env:
      - CGO_ENABLED=0
      - >-
        {{- if eq .Os "linux" }}
          LCSS_CMD=true
        {{- end }}
        {{- if ne .Os "linux" }}
          LCSS_CMD=staging-lcss
        {{- end }}
      - >-
        {{- if eq .Os "linux" }}
          LCSS_TYPE=none
        {{- end }}
        {{- if eq .Os "windows" }}
          LCSS_TYPE=exe
        {{- end }}
        {{- if eq .Os "darwin" }}
          LCSS_TYPE=dmg
        {{- end }}

and I then have:

    hooks:
      post:
        - echo "Path - {{.Path}}, project name - {{.ProjectName}}, target - {{.Target}}, name - {{.Name}}, os - {{.Os}}"
        - echo "Command - {{.Env.LCSS_CMD}}, type - {{.Env.LCSS_TYPE}}"

I get this error:

  ⨯ release failed after 1m5s                error=post hook failed: template: failed to apply "echo \"Command - {{.Env.LCSS_CMD}}, type - {{.Env.LCSS_TYPE}}\"": map has no entry for key "LCSS_CMD"

What am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to use IF statements like this?

I believe these envs are not available in the hooks, just for the build command itself...
