Make Americana an OSM US-supported project #1122
Comments
Hi all, great to see this moving forward! Just to further clarify the role of OpenStreetMap US here: we would provide a stable venue for the long-term continuation of Americana. We are invested in the community-led structure and are not interested in managing nor directing the project. OSM US provides a number of benefits including nonprofit entity status, close connections to other community projects like OSMCha and MapRoulette, and a network of contacts across industry, government, academia, and NGOs. OSM US itself is overseen by a board of directors elected by our membership (which anyone can join!) Happy to talk more about this if anyone has questions. |
@quincylvania please confirm that admin access is working on the new GitHub org. |
@ZeLonewolf I am currently a member but not an admin. |
Okay - I think I found the right buttons - should be all set for your admin access. |
I'm still just seeing "Member". It should say "Owner". |
@ZeLonewolf Confirmed! |
Americana is an official OSM US project now! https://openstreetmap.us/our-work/community-projects/americana/ |
Consistent with past discussions, and in consultation with OSM US, this issue documents remaining TO-DO tasks for Americana to be an OSM US supported project. This category "supported project" means that OSM US provides support as-needed (e.g. help with legal issues, operating the tile server, etc). This is a lesser category than OSM US Charter Projects, as we do not have a need for things like fundraising support or collecting donations.
The following checklist documents our progress in completing the steps that OSM US require in order become a supported project:
