Maintainer busy periods

We welcome newcomers during the following periods:

  • March 5 to July 31
  • October 1 to December 15

The maintainers of this repository are very busy with Outreachy mentors and applicants during these periods:

  • January 1 to March 5
  • August 1 to October 1

Busy time policies

During our busy times:

  • pull requests that fix urgent bugs (issues marked with "bug" AND "high priority") will be accepted
  • pull requests to add new features will not be accepted
  • pull requests to fix spelling or grammar errors can be submitted, but will not be processed until after our busy period
  • we're not available to help newcomers set up their development environment

Welcome Newcomers!

If you're a newcomer and it's not during a busy time, welcome!

We have bugs that are suitable for people who are new to Django development. Those bugs are well-documented with setup instructions. Please look for the newcomers welcome issue tag.

There is no need to ask if you can claim an issue tagged "newcomers welcome". Simply start working on it and send a pull request when you're done.

If you are not new to Django development, you can check out the tag help wanted.

Issues for your skillset

Sometimes you're searching for an issue that fits your skill set. We tag the specific skills you might need to fix an issue:

We especially welcome people who have experience in JavaScript or CSS. Those are skills our maintainers are inexperienced in. This means those issues are often left unresolved. Please don't hesitate to pick up an issue tagged JavaScript or CSS if it's very old.

We welcome people who are new to Django. However, since the maintainers are inexperienced in JavaScript and CSS, we can't mentor people who are new to JavaScript or CSS.

Picking important issues

Some issues are more urgent than others. If you want to make a big impact, picking a high priority issue will really help us out!
