Tab groups reflecting vault structure

Maybe this is already possible - but I was wondering if I could have tab groups determined automatically based on the folder in which the note is stored in the vault. For me at least, notes are already grouped using this structure, and there is little added value in defining groups as I open notes for editing. In this, obsidian (and other note taking apps) are very different from browsers.

A second feature, which ties in to the above but could also be useful separately, would be being able to make group-view exclusive, so that whenever I view one group, other groups are made invisible.

The two features combined - if available - would make vertical tabs an indispensable extension that makes context switching elegant and intuitive

Hi @idobz ! Thank you for sharing. Duplicating folder structures into tabs feels a bit redundant. If your goal is to maintain all your tabs as folder representations, why not disable tabs entirely and rely exclusively on the file browser? Tabs have entirely different relationships and structures compared to files, at least for the majority of users. Additionally, while Vertical Tabs provides ways for grouping and organizing tabs, it discourages constant restructuring and perfecting of the tab organization. On the other hand, while folders can have deeply nested structures, Vertical Tabs encourages maintaining a shallow tab structure.

Maybe outlining my use case will clarify things somewhat.
I'm a freelance developer, and I keep a folder per client, with various notes that relate to their project. Usually I have 3-10 client related tabs open simultaneously.

The problems start when I need to do a quick context switch between projects (and the related notes). I'd like to be able to make client A's related notes disappear and client B's appear, at the press of a button. The file browser does not provide this functionality (AFAIK).
Vertical tabs (apart from the great utilization of screen real-estate that they provide) almost do that with groups. But I need to set up the groups to reflect the inner logic of client related notes, and I need to select client B's group and unselect client A's to make the change. I also find myself switching back and forth between the file browser sidebar and the vertical tabs one (opening a note, and then assigning it a group, etc.)

Agreed - I did not have a ready made solution for this when I wrote my original note, and still don't...

May I ask if you have tried using Zen Mode?

My understanding is that Zen mode focuses on a single note. I guess what I'm asking for is a Zen mode for groups of notes here

Hi @idobz ! I'm not sure if this meets your requirements. The demo shows how to switch from one group to another with Zen Mode enabled. I know the workaround is not perfect. It requires few more clicks and only works for tabs.

I want to develop a workspace-like feature — when you switch the workspace or context, the open tabs and groups, as well as the folders and files, are all changed accordingly. I hope this can help before this feature becoming available.
