Proofreading? #57

not really we were only focussed on following git best practices.
for the main content even I see some flaws so you can go ahead and make a PR for that you have my permission but just the main content not the profiles. @p-society/2020-batch @p-society/2019-batch @p-society/2021-batch we need permissions from all members to correct grammatical errors on their profiles. @itsmepiyush2 can you give us a few examples of these errors. You can start with my profile if you want 😛 |
Ignoring the trivial errors like 'space before a full stop' and 'no space after a comma', there are some sentences which could really read better if rephrased. The examples that I give may not be grammatically incorrect but I have just a few suggestions to make them look better. "Most of my time is spent hacking on open source. I have contributed to coala, duckduckgo, Kinto, OpenGenus,Mozilla and the Ethereum foundation. Since both the paragraphs talk about interests and experience, I'd suggest you merge the two. Moreover the opening sentence in the second paragraph has an also in it which is incorrect. A better paragraph could be: "Most of my time is spent hacking on open source. I have made contributions to coala, duckduckgo, Kinto, OpenGenus, Mozilla and the Ethereum foundation. Moreover, I am also very fond of writing articles. I have prior experience in content writing for opensource.com and geeksforgeeks.org. For those interested, I maintain a list of links to all my articles." Some minor errors right off the bat: "I am a the head of..." and "I've have..." I think it is important for me to reiterate that these are not very grave errors and things can be managed if these are done away with. However, speaking from an outsider's perspective, I'm sure these changes will help make the website look more professional and people will take it more seriously. I do have experience in proofreading and content writing, and I'm just conveying what I learnt there. |
You can edit my profile and main content (both will be separate PRs). Go ahead. And thanks for pointing it out, I submitted my profile in a hurry but never read it out loud.
Agreed.
Also if you have any ideas for articles that we can publish on our medium account let us know. |
@itsmepiyush2 Also in achivements section it is written "National University of". Change it to "National University of Singapore". |
I was going through the official website and keeping aside the minor grammatical mistakes, I found many statements which if rephrased would read much better and the meaning will remain the same. I'm sure there is some amount of proofreading done for the website, be it the main content or the members' profiles, but these minor flaws irked me a little. Just a thought.
