Would it be possible to have an alternate download like F-Droid or a direct link to the apk?
Thanks

The APK we distribute to the Play store is signed. You could always build it from source.

@httpdispatch or @patricksan any thoughts on this?

Yes, the APK through Google Play is signed. But the issue I open address to those who don't want to use Google Play.
This kind of issue is discussed here: signalapp/Signal-Android#127 Moxie's point of view makes absolutely sense. So I guess what I am really asking is just to take a stand on this issue, decide wether or not use F-Droid and if you're not going to offer an alternate location, give clear instructions as how to build the application (which already exist, perhaps, but I didn't notice them in my quick look around).

I followed @moxie's comments and the discussion he had with F-Droid. Perhaps we need an issue to discuss this internal to this project. @photo/mobile-android and @WhisperSystems/TextSecure are pretty different and the conversations might differ...or they may not.

@jmathai we may upload apk to GitHub (releases feature)

@Zeriuno building instructions may be found here. But this may be little complex for users without experience.

Thanks @httpdispatch. Let's hold off on an official APK release outside of the Play store for now. Till then we've got the instructions :).
